Default Cossie breather pipes query

My cossie is now back looking like a cossie under the bonnet but we have a query about where the breather pipes go. The top 2 are ok but its the 2 from the bottom we arent sure about. The one on n/s just vents below the car.

Question is where does the o/s one go to? Is it supposed to return to the block?

This is what my mate said "The hose connection looks like ¼” NPT, but the block seems to be ½” NPT"

Now i dont even know what NPT is lol!

So should the breather go back to the block? Does a lot come through there or would we be ok to rig up a small catch tank???

Did you not have a bolt with a connection for a hose welded on to it?

Chop...do not use that hole as a return as it is postively pressurised when the engine is running and oil will NOT drain agains the presure.

Use the hole under the ex manifold as a breather and reutn oil into a catch tank back into sump UNDER oil level

see GGR site for the best breather pics

phone me if you need

Take the pipe off the breather seperator when the engine is idleing and feel the pressure in it...its not much BUT it is there...imagine this at 6k revs...

Oil will not drain down the pipe.

euan just how much oil do you think passes round the breather then back to sump? we arent talking about litres here! of course its going to drain down a pipe of that bore!

mines never spewed anything out of the filters and as thats the only return it has i know it drains back to sump

I just couldn't see where on earth I was supposed to connect to under the exhaust manifold.
So, luckily Chop took the whole old engine to me and I nabbed the adapter and fit the drain onto the block, as per my Block picture above.

It was because I didn't want oil dropping back under the rear tyres......!!

Is it supposed to fit to some sort of adapter that fits on the sump drain plug? That seems to be the only sensible place to put it, as it's under the oil level and the sump can be drained through the adapter instead of taking off the swirl pot connection also.
