Change the car for something with more power would be the most sensible option.

Changing the engine for a more powerful unit is another way but you'll need to change suspension and brakes as well to cope and the costs of insuring the car after the engine swap may make it unpractical

Or a RSTurbo, or a Zetec or something else

I've heard that a modern Zetec engine fits quite nicely in a mk2. I also have a mk2, but as I'm only 18, a Zetec engine would put a huge dent in my wallet from the insurance.

To be honest though, I think the mk2 1.1 has enough as a top speed. I've maxed out the speedo in mine (110mph). So it will do at least that given a long enough bit of road. It's acceleration can be a bit disappointing at times though, so I guess more power would help that.

I most definitely did. Speed said 110, sat. nav. said 107. It did sound like it was in pain though, if I held it too long something would have probably popped.

My car is in very good nick though, it's only got 37k on the clock.

I wasn't on a hill when I did it, might have had a tail-wind, but doubt it would have made that much difference. Took a long time for the speedo to go from 100 to 110 though.
