I've had goes with a couple of em and they got done, I had a go with an e 36 on a p or r reg around egham and he fared better than his big brothers and was on my daily, only went past me when I braked for a roundabout, he didn't and nearly had a fender bender with another road user

It was a sierra that absouloutely dominated the BTCC back in the late 80's early 90's, not bad for a car that was mildly good in its day
I think its past your bedtime mate

dominated the BTCC?
was that until the E30 M3 came along yeah?
anyway if we're talking about race cars we have to include the M3 GTR
and thats 100% road legal

thing is i still don't like the look of the E46 M3.
i've learnt to appreciate it, and i want one, but it doesn't really do it for me looks wise. i think it's because i'm more a fan of square/boxy cars, i really like the looks of the E36 even tho theyre dated now

What gave it away, his head dipped forward as it got heavy and his blinkers fell off?

i'm glad i'm not alone i thougt this was a FORD site
1. E46 M3s are claimed from the factory to be 343PS (338bhp).
2. They never make that power (usually 325bhp).
3. Chipping may gain the "lost" ponies, but no way will it gain 30bhp
.
4. CSLs are even worse - claimed 360PS (355bhp) and the true power out puts of these vary horrendously. A friend has one and only makes 355bhp AFTER being chipped
.
5. As standard they understeer as bad as a Cossie when pushed hard (so all the "great" handling bollocks is just that
). They are "good", NOT "great". It takes just as much money to make them "great" as it does a Cossie (the understeer is designed to protect "normal" drivers from themselves
)
.
6. They are just as unreliable as Cossies, and no-one in their right mind would buy one without a BMW warranty, as the VANOS can give HUGE COSTLY problems, as can the SMG gearboxes (after so many launches, the explode and the launches are all data-logged and if you have done more than 20, it invalidates the warranty
and then the replacement box is down to you - £8k
)
All of the above makes it worse that your arse was handed to you
.
Would I have one? Yes - but spare me the rose-tinted BMW shit please
.

Datalogging standing starts sounds a bit worrying
BMW = tosspot driver with no considreration for other road users. Hence they are unloved by other road users.
Just an observation from lots of driving particularly on motorways.

Chop,
Because this information isn't gleaned from t'internet, it is REAL world experience
.
This is a PROPERLY sorted M3 - it took the best part of £7k to get it to this level though
- engine is COMPLETELY standard still as well (at the moment
).

A beautifully balanced car, but a million miles away from a standard one (notice the rather hansome driver
)
