Default Cosworth transplant into S2 Escort

Hi everyone, I live near cambridge and got a S2 and have got my heart set on putting a cosworth lump in her. I know its possible to do this but is it possible to mount the engine so its transverse with fwd? Is there enough room in my engine bay and what gear box would I be looking at purchasing? Any help would be much appreciated thanks

Cause I love the shape of the S2 and love cosworths so want to bring the two together for my benifit only by putting cosworth lump in my car. Plus it would give a bit more power than any one could possible want through fwd. Hopefully if this is possible less work is needed in fitting the engine as well. Can it be done??

I saw it done in a S1 track car once - a yellow thing, used to compete in the vecta challenge in the 90's . Dunno what box he ran tho!

Bare in mind the chassis legs will need to widened by 60mm in order to accomondate the YB. I had to do this on my twin engined fiesta, BUT was easier to do when you're making it from scratch.

The only forseeable option is to cut out the chassis legs out both sides and replate the legs on the wheel side to put the strength back in.

AVA managed to get a YB into a FRST transversly and mated it to a FRST gearbox. It was not straight forward though and lots of chopping and strengthening was required. It was in FastFord a couple of years ago.

Got to say though that if you are going to the expense of putting a YB into your S2 then you may as well make it RWD at the same time. 4x4 would be cool as fook. You can chase those pesky Scoobies with a decent RST anyway, imagine being able to beat em round the twisties as well

Karl,

Sorry im not TOO familiar with your fiesta project so a couple of questions if you dont mind.

Does it retain the fiesta bulkhead and brake bar thing? Or are there major complications with fitting the turbo in there?
Does the CVH box mate up easily?
Does the lump physically fit between the standard mk2 inner wings?

IMO there's sh*te loads more work in RWD than FWD, so its not just a case of "might aswell go RWD".
