cossie colour change
I'd like to get some opinions on colour change.im in the process of restoring my escos .its currently red at the moment.but ive stripped it to a bare shell and im thinking about having it painted white as ive always wanted a white 1.would it devalue the car much.im debating about painting it and keeping it for a few years.how would everyone feel about buying an escos that has had a colour change but was done right and every part on the car replaced plus it would have a full photo rebuild
Id keep it red. If you want a white one, then just buy a white one instead mate. It would definatly de-value the car in my opinion and would massively limit your market when you come to sell it.
Having said that, im sure they'll still be plenty of people that wont be put off by a colour change, especially if you take photo's at each stage of the restoration.

The only problem I think you would have is people asking WHY ?? People always seem to be suspicious of changes that majour because they think your hiding something.
If you stick to an original colour it would make life a bit easier when u come to sell. If it would put you off buying a car that had had its colur changed you have your answer.

yes i hear wat u's are saying but as i said il b takin pics from start to finish so that will clear up any misunderstandings of me trying to hide anything.the only reason why im considering painting white is because the car is in very good condition and if i was to sell it and buy a white one probly cost me a lot to find another clean 1 plus itl probly need work as every car does except for a concours car but that sorta money outha my league and thats not wat i want ,id like to drive it which is the best part of owning a cossie it think.and if i finish the car how i want it ,itl b a long term keeper, but just wanted some opinions bout if i did decide to sell which i doubt i wud as by time im finished id have the car the way i want it.tanx for the reply lads ,cheeRS

i have first hand experiance of buying a colour changed car
it was a 2 year old saxo that had been maxpowered it was originally
mango yellow/orange and was colour changed to a correct silver
with dark grey mettalic body kit which was available but rare as most
were plain silver, on a hpi it showed as a colour change and was putting people off.
i bought it from Manheim Car Auctions and could not tell it had been
done until i lifted the floor carpet out and there it was MANGO
the car must of been painted by piccasso as the engine bay boot
inside all the doors were done properly.

Id say a definite NO NO on this, always felt strongly about this, i have mentioned having mine completly restored and repainted, people and then asked "will you get it painted the same colour".. so i say Yes of course, just how it intended on leaving the factory.
No matter how good of a job it is, be expected to lose alot of interest from buyers in the car when you do decide to sell on. So many look for an escort cosworth as original as possible.
You would proba stand in at more money if you kept it the same colour.
As a few have said, its your car, do what you wish.
