o.k guys my bros saph 4x4 wont start now was running fine then fuel pump wnt he changed it over then car ran well again
now it wont even start and when it does it just runs lumpy and backfires
hes orderd a new set of plugs,leads and dizzy cap
also hes been having some probs wae fuses melting
i cant offer him much help as i dont know anything bout cossies.
just wants all these probs sorted out once and for all if thats possible
as the show season is nearing its peak cheers for any help

Don't replace the loom.
You most likely have two seperate problems.
Check the CPS connector by doing the wiggle test, whilst running, these can and do give what you describe, as do lots of other things but cheap/free checks first.
Fuses melting, are a sign of a short or overloaded circuit unless it is the engine cooling fan circuit ?

o.k guys tried all this out now and was checking the spark from coil its an unhealthy red/orange instead of blue tried diff coil and no joy changed leads and plugs and dizzy cap also cleaned up cps and no joy really struggling on this 1

Look closely at the phase sensor wires to see if disintergrated(inside dizzy).
I would not worry about the colour of the spark, so long as there is a spark.
As you have recently changed the fuel pump, how many miles has it done since ?, have you changed the fuel filter lately.
As the problem started since the pump change, it may be loads of air in the system but this ould cause surging, mine revved up to 3000rpm on it's own after I did mine, which was over ten years old.
Check the voltage at the pump anyway.
Also not meaning to be rude double check the firing order as backfiring is normally ignition timing related.
