Default Cossie or Skyline Help and advice please

hi folks,
my question is, on a short drag, ie 2/3 rds the length of a qtr mile, which car would be victorious, a 600 bhp cossie or a 600 bhp skyline???, assuming they both get a good start, the cossie is lighter yeah????,

which cossie? 2wd sierra, 4wd sierra, escort etc?

I would guess the skyline due to it's trick running gear.

Depends on LOTS of factors, here are a few

1. Is the Cossie 2wd or 4wd.
2. Is the Skyline a GTR?
3. The weights of the two cars
4. What transmissions are they running? This is CRITICAL
5. Tyres
6. The Ability of the cars and their drivers to launch!

Its your gearbox thats letting you down mate. Loosing weight from your car WILL help and will also help reduce the stress on the box.

Good luck

its like the difference between having a fat mate sitting in the passenger seat and you being alone in the car

@gurne, thanks mate , thats what i was thinking, and dont the skylines need a bit of room to stretch their legs where as my power would have come in earlier????,

@ itsmeagain, yeah mate im gonna bust up everything just giving it loads, dont care if it goes bang, in limerick in june this year i di the qtr in 11.5, the nearest skyline was 12.2 and he was also supposed to be runnin 550bhp????, dont know but he seemed very quick into second gear where i was revvin the nuts off mine in first through to 4th, all his power seemed to come in late second gear or early 3rd?????

the skyline should take it..

the computers in it let it run 4x4 for launch, then it shifts to RWD once it has traction and is pulling smoothly

and which shape skyline

if its an r32.. lol their light as a mofo, may as well be racing a pulsar GTIR with more power!

also the inline 6 sky should have the edge in tourqe

Mazdaman, despite the r33 being a bit bigger than a r32, there is relatively little difference in weight, prob 50 kg which in a 1500kg car is not that much.

May as well close Santa Pod, you lads can decide the winner from your computers, if only it was that easy.
Gearbox used & Driver will decide it. Assuming you both have suitable Tyres inflated to the optimum pressure. Thats before we start on the Power Plant.
As a general rule the best prepared car will win.

@madrod, lol close santa pod , i suppose im just trying to get an idea of how close it is or has either one of us got a greater advantage.......apparently from the posts here the gearbox has a lot to do with this, im learning new stuff every day , mine is a std gearbox 4x4 with a quailfe big tooth kit inside, it does launch very well if i say so my self, i can just get a hint of wheel spin everytime and it really helps keep the t4 on song plus now ive got nos so that should help, im using cut slicks for the day, well they ae slicks with grooves cut in them , not a lot of grooves, what tyre presure would you reccomend???,

btw its an r34 v spec im up against

If its only 500bhp id say its gonna be still twins, wouldnt suprise me if the std are still on it.

And regarding R32GTRs, early ones are 1430kg, less than late spec EscCossies with the extra crash protection bars etc (a good 50kg less than 1430kg if theyve removed the aircon and hicas like i have), later R32GTRs are 1480kg, but as this is a R34GTR its well past 1550kg.

Youl murder it IMO, and ignore the V-Spec part as it makes no odds, actually the harder V-Spec suspension will probably make it not as good at launching.

Your lighter, as powerful if not more so, far better tyres, half decent box, youl be fine if you can launch well.

@itsmeagain, thank you is all i can say, i stripped the interior this morning and have been tweaking the boost and nos up and down my lovely coutry irish lanes, i genuinely have a sore neck from doing standing starts ,it d just be sweet to end the year if i could come out on top, ive already beat an ex a***y v spec in limerick this year so another skyline kill would be just a brilliant end to the year and a fine testimony to pj motorsport in wolverhampton for building me such a sweet car

'mazda man, i m not sure what turbo setup he has, im only hearing what he has second hand

@mattrs1600i...... .. sorry skin dont have any pics , although if you log onto www.racershaven.com and look in the gallery section there is a good few pics in there somewhere...........

I wouldn't worry, Talk (or Torque ) is cheap. Get a good launch, with a well prepped 500bhp Escos with the nitrous on and you should win!

If you don't who cares, you've lost to a 700bhp Skyline!

P.S 700bhp Skyline are like 500bhp Cossies. Every bloke down the pub has one

The cossies are normally on Greens and t34's when you open the bonnet though

Sorry Dave,I wont be there to watch,I'm wishing you all the best to win,BUT,the place will be so full of backward baseball cap wearing, plastic fantastic driving, paxed mowered reading muppetts giving it loads in 60 bhp civic's/nova's etc that it would make me very very ill.I'm a bit long in the tooth for all that neon washer's/donutting cr*p!!!Catch you another time at a trackday in Kirko sometime. All the best again,Micky
