Default Ticking noise after a 10min motorway drive?!?!

Just put new tappets in the cossie and is now quiet as a mouse when i start it up, but this noise used to happen before i changed them as well.

My problem is that when i do my daily trip down the A13 approx 8 miles doing 70mph (seriously!), when i come off it and i go the accelerate i get a ticking noise; like a tappet tick.

It all depends on how hard i've been driving it as to how bad it is, and if i pull over and let it idle for a few minuites then go to pull away the noise goes or if i turn it off and leave it for a while (couple of minuites) it will be quiet again untill i do a run at a constant speed again.

It only seems to make the noise under acceleration be it under load or blipping the throttle, and it doesn't tick at idle.

Should i be worried or do you think it's just a tappet draining of oil momentarilly. Any advice would be apreciated

well priming noise.

check for anything catching on the fans, cambelt etc, other than that i dunno

you could get it up on a ramp with it running and have a nosey around?

Nah deffo not the pump, or the fans, and if it was the cam belt catching somewhere it would make the noise all the time, as it stands it only seems to do it when its warmed up. With the time it would take to get it up on a ramp it would have been idleing long enough to quieten down.

I was worried it could be detonation, but a friend of mine (mechanic) told me he doesn't think it is.

BTW i fitted that loom i got off you mate, i made a few changes to it (Permanent live instead of the Ignition live) and it's running sweet as a nut now

All i've got to worry about now is this flipping ticking noise!

Glad you like the loom

Take it for a run on the ramps, or i've got 4 axle stands if you need to borrow them (the neighbours think your made when your doing 50mph and not going anywhere )

nope i got upto 85mph in my pug 205, until i realised i hadn't put any wheel nuts on one of the discs , i left the wheels off so i could nosey around under the car prior to the run.

Just double check everything, as i don't wanna hear you've been run over by your own car

Incidentally you get a higher top speed as theres no drag 130mph from a H reg n/a diesel escort

Cheers Craig, but when i dip the clutch and blip the throttle the noise is still there, i'm glad i'm not the only one with this problem though

Just out of curiosity, what could cause the gearbox or the release bearing to tick, i would have thought it would make either a whine or a rattle if these were on the way out

If it was an injector it would tick like it all the time wouldn't it?

Mine ticks mate i know the release bearing is whinning, but it has a ticking sound from idle and when you rev it, it gets quicker so do you think its tappets and cam? There is also i ticking which sounds like its coming from under the car??

Could be mate, does it do it when it's warm as well?

Mine has been found now. It turned out to be the exhaust manifold leaking air, and i've lost 3 exhaust manifold studs somewhere along the line!? I'm gonna fix it next week then it should be ok.

If your noise goes when it warms up it's quite possibly a tappet or it could be piston slap.
