im currently debating about having my escos chemically dipped and resprayed,what i need to know is ,is ther anyway or has anybody tried and succeeded in replicating the original factocy seam seals,as when i have it dipped its going to remove all non ferrous materials,ie,sealer .this is the only concern that is holding me bak at the moment

 

why has it got to be dipped? the seals would be very hard to replicate accurately id have thought

 

my escort has just had a quarter fitted and the sealer is very good but is diffrent from the original if you look at other side

 

im just afussy fcker and have been looking at options of sandblasting and that,but the dipoping process seems the best as it takes the shell bak to bare metal,and the chemical kills any rust and runs into areas sand blasting cant get at.after its dipped its then imersed in zinc phosphate and electrophoretic coat (immersion primer),which runs everywhere,and im then itl b painted by john taylor,im going to restor the car to as close to new as possible,please feel free to comment on other options and ideas,as this hasnt been decided

 

seems like a hell of a job...but then again...thats the way to go.i wanna do something extreme like that myself...one day

 

how much is it costing to have all this done?

 

To chemically clean the bodyshell and panelwork Ł695.00 + VAT

To zinc phosphate and electrophoretic coat (immersion primer) – Recommended Ł775.00 + VAT

You will never be able to replicate the factory applied seam sealer but after going to all this effort I'm not sure why you would It isn't applied with any particular level of skill or attention to detail. I would think that you could probably apply the seam sealer with more care than at the factory and the most important thing would be getting consistency so that it looked good afterwards.

hi, sealer!!! if you warm the sealer up prior tpo aplication it will flow consistantly (leave it on a radiator !!) -constant pressure and a nozzle cut to the correct shape(not just chopped off!!!) very easy to do-i apply silicone sealers for a living, vertically and lateral-------
those that say it cannot be done are the one's who cannot do it!!!!
