ECU Resseting?
I have succselsfully reset my Escort Cosworth ECU using the reset procuder in the past, but I cant get it to work this time?
Does anyone know what pins the the plug is connected to in the ecu so I can check if it is still connected.
Also does simply disconecting the battery do the same thing as the reset?
Thanks,
Gavin

From: Macclesfield - you'll never leave....!
you've got to short all 3 together within 2 secs of turning the ignition on, sometimes, you have to do it a couple of times before it works.
just dropping the power on the P8 wont reset it.
it does work on the EECIV ecu though.

Thanks Dave, I have tried and tried!
When I have done this before its worked the first time for me!
I wondered if I could get around it by disconecting the battery, but you say its not the same.

apparently even if you left the P8 disconnected for X years, it woud still retain its KAM...
has anything else changed on the car - (new loom, coilpack? ect )?

Yes trying to reset using the diagnostic plug, but doesnt seem to work this time?
The car has had some wiring issues that I have sorted, but there is always the possibilty that its not connected in the loom some where
So if any one knows what pin the diagnostic plug should be connected to in the ecu that would be useful.
Chris, The brakes are working now
very pleased, it is back on the road now, but I need to reset my ecu as I am sure its not fueling correctly.

A little bird once told me that on certain Fords up to a model year, the diagnostic connector isn't actually attached to the ECU, to prevent 'enthusiasts' from fixing the problem themselves. I bought a gunson code reader for my K plate twincam Sierra, but it doesn't blink at all and the engine behaves perfectly normally whether its connected or not, so there may be some element of truth in that.
Or I just got a duff Gunson.
I found a page ages ago that had some interesting facts on the L8, including a brief pin layout - I don't know how relevant to your P8 it is though

My understanding was that code readers dont work if you have had your car remapped, but on a standard chip they "should" work.
My plug should be connected as I have reset the ECU before.
I will try a few more times though.

i was told that due to the fact that these diag connectors under the bonnet hardly ever get used - they get quite badly corroded and sh1tted up - tey spraying some contact cleaner down the socket and then insert/remove the plug several time to try and get a good contact

I have a baby board fitted to the ECU and have mild Anti-Lag could this effect ecu reset?
I notice that the idle valve should tick when the ignition is turned on, mine does not, is this due to the ALS?
I have check the diagnostic socket, 2 pins are connected to the ecu plug but I did not get a reading for the third, should all three pins be connected to the ecu?
thanks,
Gavin
