Default Build One.....Or Buy One ???

Since buying the M5, (Which is Great)......I'm seriously thinking about building an "Old Skool" track day car/occassional road use car.

Knowing the prices it costs to build a good "Old Skool" car, I'm trying to decide if I should build....or buy one already done.

I recently came across this car advertised for sale..... The guy is asking around the 12k mark....... Bearing in mind it's spec, could I build one for that money.......Or should I buy one already done. (I don't weld, so any welding fabrication I would have to pay for......the rest I could do myself.

Haven't seen this car in the skin yet, so I'm having to assume the shell is reasonable.

build one. might be more time an money, least u know its done right. No need to worry incase the dude who built the engine/shell etc cut corners.

Id love to say the man who i got my saf off did everything i wanted, but there were quite a few bodges in there....

Jim, Build one mate there are plenty of mk 2 shells that have been converted cage turets etc,You can then see it for what it really is..
Then as you know engines good spec pop up (cossie) for a good price

IMO it would be cheaper than buying one for 12k

Rollin shell painted etc £4000 that will be mint
engine (cossie) £1200 box £300 Loom £380 (new)

Thats nearly 6k and u know what u got 6k for wheels seats etc

Seen a few shells in back of retro ford for this kiind of dosh

theres a hell of a lot more into just throwing a cosworth engine into a mk.2 shell.

a decent rear axle will cost you £2-£3k.

imo, it will be cheaper buying one already done.

unless you want a really decent shell and spec then it may be better for you to get one to your requirements.

good luck Jim.

have a look in my resto thread just to see a few things that you will need.
