Default Chipping small turbo escort: good and bad chips?

Who has experiences with tuning chips for the small turbo escos?
Which are good, which are not?
I see on ebay for example this chip,
from the advert on ebay:

For Escort Cosworth Small Turbo
EEC Management

Please note a -31 actuator will be needed with this chip to get the full potential out of your car - these are in my other items!!

Escort Cosworth Small Turbo Chip- +40 BHP (when used with actuator)
Retails at £293.75

Enhance the performance of your car with an easy to fit, tried and tested 'Powerchips'. Our chips are correctly mapped by the masters of going faster, 'Powerchips'! They are mapped to increase power and torque, make your engine more responsive, remove flat spots, and generally makes the car more fun to drive.

When driven sensibly, not only does the chip improve performance, it can also improve fuel economy, rather than destroy it, unlike when you use a cheap resistor 'chip'. The other 'chips' offered on eBay, fool your car into believing it is running on cold start constantly, making your car run rich all the time and hence BIGGER fuel bills!!

How can I check if this is a real chip, no imitation with only a resistor of 5 cents in it

What chips are ok?

Thanks!

personaly i wouldnt look at how Cheap the chip is, id just go thru a respectable tuner and pay the correct money.

for a small chip/software it can cause a hell of alot of damage if its not correct for your engine - and how do you know the program on that chip is exactly what Mr Annonymous is saying it is on ebay!?

Theres plenty of respectable tuners that use this site that could help you - namely Stu @ MSD, it wouldnt be a bad thing to give him a call/PM and see what exactly he can do for you and prices involved etc.

If you mean these chip's:

That's rubbish...I know someone who had that chip fitted in his car.

Go for the superchip ones, they are better, OR contact MSD

Btw. I've got 1x Wolf chip and 1x Superchip 285

Powerchips are good, but them £100 copied ones from ebay are not. I would not risk my ECU on a copied chip.
I had a Superchip that didn't perform that well on my car, so I sold it to someone who had no problem with it.
I had Powerchips one on mine, and that is the ones I sell, as I have no problems with them.
They are £275-£300.
I ran one for years no boost limit no rev limit 303bhp on std injectors and small turbo EEC4.
I have my old one for sale too

I'm the guy he sold it to - and it's working a treat. Thanks mate

I got a healthy performance improvement when I fitted the chip (even on the standard exhaust) and fuel consumption is about the same as before.

When I bought the car it had a powerchip that didn't seem to work properly. When I took it out performance improved and so did the fuel economy by about 5MPG. I think it may have been poorly set up or a one off faulty chip, but those cheapo ones on Ebay look well dodgy.

I never had any problem with Superchips...
