Default RST ECUs

I know this has probably been answered before but what boost can a standard 88 spec ERST ECU run?

Also what does the chippng change apart from the boost limit? Ignition advance/retard characteristics?

The ECU I'm running in my RST at the moment dies at around 14psi which is a pain in the arse, I've bought a chipped ECU from a mate but it makes the car very hard to drive low down which I think was adding to my problems...

I know I'm gonna have to get my lazy arse to a tuners at some point

AFAIK....

89 spec or earlier ECU's max 8 psi
90 spec or later ECU's max 10.5 psi

Again, AFAIK all a chip does in RST ECU's is remove the boost limit.

If its dying around 14 psi with your current ECU then that is set in the chip as the limit.

What is your mates ECU ?

Std ecu has 10psi boost cut.

regards your problems, you could have a faulty ecu, engine or loom problems or the dreaded knock sensor retard syndrome! ERST's really are becoming problematic and I see more these days with serious problems than not.

Cheers, looks like the ECU I've got in there a the mo is chipped then, I'll turn the boost down on itso I can actually drive it without getting pissed off with it!

Adam I haven't got a clue who my mates ECU was chipped by, I've opened it up but theres nothing in there...

Karl, this knock sensor problem is it worth changing it over for another one?

just move the knock sensor to somewhere else in the engine bay.. (ie not in the inlet manifold (keep it plugged in though)
