can anyone tell me what costs and requirements are involved in importing a car over from japan?i.e sva test re-registering it etc,how much would it all add up to?
any good websites to visit etc or a point in the right direction

p.s the idea is to sell the car on again to make a few quid

any help much appreciated

Hi mate,

Of the top of my head

Shipping Cost - Ł300 - Ł600 depending on vehicle size
VAT - 17.5% of (Vehicle Cost + Shipping Cost)
Customs - 10% of (Vehicle Cost + Shipping + VAT)
SVA - If 10 year or older
MOT
DVLA Registration Cost
Numberplates

I imported one a year ago and these were the associated costs then, I have heard that there is now a change in the SVA test, but am not entirely sure.

If you are importing to make money, choose the model carefully.

Due to nature of the import market in the UK, now, you could very easily lose money. I have actually seen vehicles on forecourts here, as cheap as I could import one myself.

Hope this is a help

As long as you know what to look out for, because there is a lot of crap in some of these auctions
