Ditto what Charlie said.

I've got class one and two, or Cat C and C+E as they now are.

i used to do groupage into europe, and greece.

pick up from leeds airport, travel down to coventry airport and un-load/re-load then head to amsterdam or brussell`s airport then jolly around europe for a week or so.

used to do about 2000-2500 miles a week

not my thing now though,a very very lonely life.

left that and went into heavy recovery,roll-overs accidents etc.
my old truck

got sick of 100+ hours a week.

now i just drive a barrier rig

Im learning with Scania on their driving experience courses, its about Ł1800 quid though

you only need adr on like petrol tankers etc...
not being funny but the chances of a newbie getting a job on the fuel tankers is slim..
adr is useful though even on general haulage..

other question is are you will to be away from home? if you are then general haulage is what you want, if you aint then look for a trunking job for one of the big retailers/super markets. not bad money and home every night..

horses for courses mate

If your on an agency then yeh, there is different types of work out there so I would say take whats offered, and find out what kind of work you enjoy and dislike.

i have my tanks and packages in adr

you will struggle getting a tanker job though,i tried and it seems a catch 22 situation though.

you can`t get a job without experiance, you can`t get experiance without a job

the firm i went to,i offered to do a week for free with a driver.
flatly turned me down,if that don`t show i wanna learn i don`t know what does

best of luck mate

price has sure gone up since i passed mine was about Ł700

you are joking right?

adr is used more on a hell of a lot of tankers than you think, petrol isn`t the only dangerous substance hauled by tankers.

just as a side note, out of the 7 normal groups (not explosives of radioactive)

which is the worsted group?

thats not how it was meant. I also said that it is regualary used on general as well...

dont know adr mate so couldnt tell ya.

my advice was if he was aiming to get on tankers is adr worth it, as how many tanker places carry adr are going to give a newbie a drive??

didnt mean it really that it wasent needed as such..

this may help you regarding your adr
http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/cdg.pdf

courses for tanks and packages last 5 days, packages only 3 days.

might be worth doing the course of your own back first (about Ł500)

gives you a lift up the pecking chain

oxidising agents and peroxides would be my guess on the fact that on that list it isnt the one that makes you think of hazards...

gases, no mate

it`s group 9

i will give you an example as to why

all the other groups, the items you can see/smell touch etc.

class 9 Miscellaneous has all the odd ball items in that don`t fit into a normal group.

as an example as to whats in it.

abstesos

it is a killer, you can`t see when airbourne.
yes i know you can get sheets of it,but the sheets don`t kill you,the fibres do

it kills you years and years later

dave

I drive a 32 ton 8 wheeler bulk tipper and an 18 ton 4 wheeled curtain sider. I have my ADR, but as above, vey few new drivers will get to drive vehicles that come under the ADR scope.

I started by Trade Plating with Uniloads based in Warrington - lonely life out on the road, but I drove everything from full weight artics on magazine tests, to small vans, bin lorries (nice!) to brand new prototype trucks. Loved it, but not the lifestyle.

Now I do 7-5 in this:

And I get to drive a JCB

And a Lambo too! (Tractor not the car )
