pro`s and cons, engine has a optimal running temp ,so it will take longer to warm up. On the other hand if your thermostat sticks ,its goodbye head gasket

Just my thoughts mate.,personaly i would run without

if you have to remove the stat you have something wrong. simple as.

there should be no reason ever to remove one. if your trying to reduce high temps then your cooling system is not adequate enough for the purpose.

Why do you NEED a thermostat?

I know its to get the engine up to optimum running temp etc but is that essential?

I recently took my thermo housing apart and noticed their was no thermostat in it! so thats why my car had been running no higher than a quarter on the guage

markk cheers

GARETH T, during the time I had the engine its done about 400miles without a stat, I was unaware it didnt have one, hardly used the car so it didnt occur to me/wasnt sure what temp it would run at, fitted an XR2 fan switch and just assumed the fan came in earlier than an RST
since fitted a stat and new rst fan switch but dont know how long the previous owner ran it without a stat....the top end is tappets as fook, bottom end 'seems' fine
