I'd bet there are quite a few cars on here that would surprise a lot of people..

belonging to people that never say much about them.

I'd not really seen it before. but looking at the spec it cant Fail to be fukking rapid... just they never been to these competitions or proven with
timing gear. so you dont tend to hear much about them. IMO

I have seen so many cars claim X, Y and Z only to be utter crap.

Dont mean cossies but alot of other cars too.

Rod is 100% correct in what he says

You cant claim massive bhp then only do 175 mph.

You cant claim your car is a track weapon then never take it on track.

I believe that alot of cars are built just to boast on the net

i'd bet a car like the one i mentioned and a good few others would be faster to 60 than rods saph...

There is a REALLY good reason for that IMHO

Its not until you get invovled in that sort of thing that you work out the details of how fucking hard it is to get your car to deliver.

My involvement with rods car is very vague indeed, but ive still learnt enough to now realise how much harder getting so much speed in such a small space.

I wuld guess Euan is seeing the same thing Rod has, lots of people going out with supposedly mental cars that cant beat euans relatively modest spec.

Wasnt the Reyland car mark 1 the quickest to 60? Rod will never beat Martins 0-60 as he'll never get the grip.

 

i reckon i could have done 180 with 400 ATW as i did 180 on my first run while taking it pretty easy in braking area etc.

 

In 1937 it was really interesting how long a car took to get to 60

Now the time it takes to get to 160 seems more interesting TBH


Whenever you accelerate on a track you are doing it FROM 60 not to it normally.

 

is it all about top speed then?

what about getting there, or being able to put the speed down and still use it on track.

its not everyones cup off tea to do over 180mph in a straight line.



i agree, that there is alot of cars out there that the full spec isnt known, not everyone shouts about what there car has or hasnt got and i strongly believe a few cars would suprise a few other well known cars out there.


Euan - i fully agree that some cars look the bollocks on paper but may be no good atall.

Dave - id gladly challenge you to put in lap times or to have a few laps around a track and be quietly confident, but then id never want to compare my top speeed figures against anything you could ever do because i know id be put to shame.

Agree with that, people dont relise how hard it is! Me encluded really, but i appreciate what people do and they have right to brag when they been there and done it! But like most things in this country people always try to put you down

It defo aint all about top speed!

Think most people concentrate on top as its SO expensive to build a car that is REALLY fast round a track.

I was watching a vid of simon norris evo on track and it was a weapon!

the way it banged thu the gears was unreal, looked so much fun!

the fact that it does200 mph is just a bonus.

the most exciting thing about the topspeed days at brunters is the big bend at the start

not wanting to piss on anybodys perade(everyones entitled to do what they want for a hobby)but the money involved in getting into the 180+ bracket is crazy and for what?? to drive in a strait line only to come way behind rod,,he has done it now to such a level that i dont think anyone could beat it or would want to part with the money to do it.

 

sadly, i dont own one of these surprise cars.. and probably never will lol

 

if what you and euan say is correct there must be more to it then as there are "apparently" alot of 500+bhp cars about now

It is very expensive to build an engine that will do over 180 time and time again and I agree that the Top Speed days are few and far between BUT my car is a very very fast road car and thats where i use 99% of the time.
