My misses mates 2000 X plate 1.6 16valve escort is really sluggish (like it is towing a caravan)

Could the clutch be slipping, the pedal feels really high up and it feels like your reving to get it going??

 

does sound like clutch fella does it slip at all when driving hard in 3rd or 4th gear
