you don't generally check it, just buy a new one and see if it cures the problem.

I think the boost has been turned down a tiny bit from standard as an old man had it before me.

im not 100% sure tho....the overboost hits the first dash, then full boost settles half way round the solid bar on the standard boost gauge.

Is the car std or chipped? Don't forget Escort Cossies will 'overboost' as std(shouldn't cut out though) as it was designed to under certain conditions.

The actuator is the (usually) bronze/silver coloured thingymabob attached to the turbo compressor housing, with a rod that goes to the exhaust wastegate. Don't recommend playing with it though if you have to ask what it is

Skiman, it might not be overboost cut, are there no reputable tuners near you who could diagnose?

To adjust the actuator you really need to remove the heatshield, and then ideally you need to unclip the actuators arm from the wastgate (otherwise you could possibly damage the diaphragm in the caspule if you just slacken the nut, and twist the rod), then adjust, refit, test etc. but again, you really want to be doing this with an accurate psi boost gauge. As you can imagine, it gets real hot in there if you need to re-adjust!

Skiman - check all the small bore boost pipes are still attached......

The pic :-

Shows that the coolant hose where it attaches to the turbo,it seems to be leaking due to a very tight jubilee clip which has cut into the hose, would this affect it?

Amal valve may have blown apart of the pipes split... relatively common.

No i doubt it mate, but i would get it sorted coz it's not good to have water dripping onto the turbo!

Try to strip the pipe back hopefully it will be long enough to be able to cut a bit off

you might want to check that the turbo hasnt failed,if there is too much play in the shaft this could cause the compressor to stall hence restricted airflow, maybe cause it to stall
