Default NEED HELP ADVICE AND INFO!!!!!!

whenever i set off from standing start or slow moving eg 1,2 gear...i can hear a knock come from drivers side.
i grabbed the driveshaft(the going into hub) and it could move backwards and forwards
i guess this is not supposed to happen!!
could anybody shed any light on this,eg is it the driveshaft??or sommat else??
is it dangerous to drive altogether or is it nothing too serious and could handle another week??(till ive got some spare cash)
ive been told i could get a driveshaft for around £15-20,does this sound about right???
is it worth me changing it myself..(bear in mind im still learning about cars..)?? or would i be better off getting a garage to do it?? whats the average price for this doing????
its a mk5b 1.4 escort 94 reg...
all advice is more than welcomed and recieved..just need the info etc as this is worrying me

Moving in and out of the hub, or sideways ?
Defo sideways is a no no, tiny amount of in and out is ok but tiny is the word.
Not for the novice, ok if someone to help who has done these, might just be snap ring dislodged in gearbox end, is that end nice and secure ?

I'd guess its a worn ball joint on the bottom arm.

Dont worry yourself too much - but continue looking until you find out for sure what it is.

If you have a decent set of tools and a bit of common sense then cars are just a big bag of nuts and bolts and replacing like for like is easy. Always worth having a go yourself (maybe with some local help) to save cash

FWD cars driveshafts have about 1" to 1.5" play in the tripod joints if thats what your thinking is movement you will feel it if you disconnect the bottom arm

Main thing to check is lower arm ball joint and lower arm suspension bushes as torque reaction when moving off will try to kick rear of arm upwards .
