Default L6 Closed Loop?

I know that the L6 has no such facility built in, but can the L6 be modified to work with closed loop lambda control in a similar way to how the L8 can be modified to control a coilpack instead of a coil?

Answers more technical than 'no' would be appreciated

Yes they can, the trouble is the cost, would be cheaper to go 3d, than mod a L6.
Currently the cheapest option is the L8, but by the time you add CL and coilpack you have bought a 3d!!, which will give you both and more.

no because the coilpack driver is a separate board that just takes the output from the normal coil pulse and basically splits it into 2 for the separate wasted spark coils (that's over simplyfying it somewhat)

the closed loop fuelling control has to be written in the engine run program that is stored on the eprom, and the L6 eprom cannot hold enough data for that to be included

having said that, i've read that it is possible to use a L8 babyboard on a L6, but i cannot confirm how/why/what.

In which case, could it be done with an intermediate interface? ie, two chips: one being the L6 eprom, passing map information down to the CPU as requested, and a second chip that is the closed loop controller, which sits between the CPU and the eprom.

The intermediate chip/closed loop controller would provide a closed loop map or modify the normal chip's output under closed loop conditions, and in open loop, would simply allow map requests to go straight through to the L6 chip.

This chip would actively monitor requests to the eprom, and would act completely transparently to the CPU.

Opinions on a postcard please...

The cost ?, some nice electronics there, a lot more cost effective to just get a L8, or aftermarket ecm, that will also directly control coilpack have anti lag, traction launch control etc etc, some even have INDIVIDUAL ignition and fuelling for each cylinder capability, as well as interpolation of multi maps which the L1-8, P8 do not, so correct stoich of 14.66 can be maintained, note it's not 14.7, but close enough.
Anyone going to go coilpack and CL may as wel go 3 d then in that case ?

L8 can also do individual fuel trim to each injector (RP Labs version)

Necessary ?, can't see them developing it if it wasn't tbh.
I like them as they are DESIGNED by themselves, EMERALD, or rahter KARL at EMERALD did this, used to be built in house but so busy now farm this out.
They fit straight on certain cars with no mods needed, rovers, lotus etc and can use any sensor configuration.
They have a one off mapping price of £250, regardless of how long it takes, and can be security coded as on rover cars.
