Default Big Job S1

Hi, my name is Ash and I’m new to passion ford.

I have always been into Fords ever since I saw the Escort Cosworth as a kid.
My first Ford was an Escort Popular 3dr which I bought from Leeds. It already had the turbo bodykit, alloys and the suspension lowered. It was properly set up for (road) racing. It was quick ish off the mark (beating nova 1.4sr’s easily) and slow at top end but it was unbeatable round the corners. It handled like it was on rails!
Sadly I got bored and with me only being young I couldn’t get power mods so I went for looks. I know looking back now I should have left it alone, but at least I got it in a mag.

I then got a job which was down a road which this car didn’t like, so it had to go.

I then went away from ford to try something else.

Again I bored and have been building a show car out of it for two years.

While it was off the road I went back to Ford with a fiesta 1.25 si
Best small car ever driven, nippy, rev happy and lots of fun round corners. I was able to upset a lot of people including Scooby sport driver off the lights.
But sadly lost electrics @ 70ish and then seized engine trying to get it to start again. Now we think it may have been the cam belt gone but we just scrapped without really checking as aa man said it was knackered.
This made me need a new run around which leads me to my s1 turbo.
I would never had thought of getting one if it wasn’t for my mate lincolndanny. I always thought it wouldn’t be possible; one the cost of buying and two cost of insurance. He talked me into it by saying it was an investment!
This is what I bought

Over a couple of weeks I put some audio in, RS s/wheel and cleaned the interior

Then after a couple of weeks playing with it the 193bhp engine it completely finished off the already slipping standard clutch. So we decided to take the engine out and at the same time replace the scuttle panel as the passenger wiper was about to fall out at any time.

Is this what they call a crate engine?

some shiny bits to go back in.

It is all back together now but still having problems with the once 1st time starter /reliable engine.

What do you think to the bonnet being raised at the back?

Bit too much?

Not enough?
Or none at all?

I have finally found the fault with the car after changing the coil, dizzy, dizzy cap, rotor arm, leads and spark plugs. I was the ECU that failed and I’m hoping it’s not the chip!

Bought two ecu’s on eBay one a sealed unit with a warranty just to get me going and a cheap one to try changing over the chips.

Tested both ecu’s and they work (starts on the first turn and runs sweet.)

I started on the chip change over today as I had a day off work. The chip is in the new ecu, now so all I’ve got to do is test it, fingers crossed. Hoping it will work as I would like Motorsport Developments only retune the engine not rechip as I could do with the spare cash!

Default Update 24/04/07

I had the weekend off and with summer coming up I thought I’d better get the cleaning gear out. The s1 was looking a bit dirty and dull.

That rusty hole is getting worse. Lucky I have Lincolndanny and a new panel!

Told you it was dirty, but a rinse first makes it look a bit better.

Looking better.
Spot the difference.

Sadly the sun went in before I could get any good pics but these should do until it comes out again.

Sorry about quality it was really bad light and I was in a rush to get to the pub.

Hi the car has had its mot the other day and guess what it……….FAILED!

Welding, welding and more welding.

When I got the phone call it sounded bad, but after receiving the report and going through it with Lincoln Danny it looks to be not that bad.

It hopefully is just the usual foot wells plus a little bit of the inner sill on the passenger side.
It also needs:
New brake pipes all round and rear brakes releasing (it has been stood for 2 months). Plus they are week (his words not mine. I can get it to stop quick.)
Steering is excessively tight (it is an ’84 escort plus 7.5” wide wheels! I have no problems!)
Rear lights need looking at. Apparently one is affected when you put another on (yer! the normal light by the fog light)
Headlight aim
And the horn stopped working on the way there.

Any way here is some pics of the new number plates and it out side after the polish. Pics still not great but I will get some proper ones done soon.

Got the S1 home today. So tonight I thought I would have a look at the work needed.
The outside looks tidy ish.

But I pulled back the carpet.

I decided to strip the interior out to have a better look. The inner sills have spilt away from the floor and there was a lot of rust in the corners of the front foot wells. I had a poke around and this is what it ended up looking like.

I guess this is what you get with 22 year old cars. Just want to get it on the road asap.

Your cossy's look mint.

My plan if I ever get this back on the road is to keep up grading first 2wd and then Escort cossy. My dream would be to have a track Escort like Reyland's with all WRC gear on.

Me and a couple of mates have been working on the the old girl when we can. We have worked though the night most of the time only having McDonalds to keep us going.
So a big thanks to them.

The rust bug has eaten more than we had originally thought.

Here is a few pics of the progress.
Dash off to have a good look behind.

Some of the new pannels arrive.

Here we go!

Needs a clean again!!

Hopefully more done soon.
WANT IT BACK LIKE THIS!

Default BIG UPDATE

Me and my mates have been working on the car as much as possible and have got a bit done. It's been a while since my last update as I seem to be busy all the time.
So were to start.
Passenger foot well.
This started off a bit slow as I had to learn how to convert from arc welding to mig with the help of Lincolndanny. Here is a few pictures to show the progress.

In the wheel arch wasnt better I had to made my own box section.

A bit of finishing and I think this would look ok.

Having to do this in chunks as it keeps crashing out the computer.
We moved onto the battery tray/firewall.
It all started off like this.

but soon got to work

Still got a bit of finishing to do but I will do this later as I want to get big bits done first.

Default BIG UPDATE

Here is some more.
God dam the british climate, it's mr rust bugs favourite.
The weld on the front wings cleaned up nice thow.

Here is Lincolndanny playing.

We put the wing on to see how it fitted and tried the door.
The door has never fitted right, we think it was bent in a knock.

At the end of the night I can remember hearing these words "Right that sill looks rusty, it's got to go".
So here are the pics.
