Why not just remove yours from your inlet, blank the hole, plug the sensor in and fuck it off behind the heater box?

antony215, Ive got an S2 engine fitted and a spare S2 head/inlet...I gave someone my spare knock sensor and upon taking it out I realised their wasnt a hole where it was...think about it, why would it need a hole in the inlet to measure knock

because you have an early 86 S2 inlet which didn't have the knock sensor

I have 2 S2 inlets, and they do not have a hole in them when you remove the sensor!

lol,ive never noticed either, would have noticed when i removed mine but
anyway got 2 knock sensors so its back to ava on saturday for some more testing

out of interest what does removing the knock actually do?obviously it cant detect knock from the engine as its not connected but will it not get other noises from around the engine bay
also what would a fucked knock sensor do to the power as in how much power does it sap,as im not gettin any knock, but the ignition is being retarded so presume its faulty KS,or fuckin hope it is
what other things can cause the ignition to be retarded

Well by plugging a sensor in and just tucking it away, it means it won't detect knock. The CVH top ends are common to fool the ECU, which results in ignition retard when theres not actually any knock.

You're probably thinking why can't i just unplug it, but if you do that its permentantly retarded

surely this i only a short term solution as i would like to sense knock if it is there, didnt know that unplugging it just retards ignition, would explain my mates runnin like shit then

Well if the cars set up and running right you shouldn't get any knock.

EGT and AFR gauges are VERY handy if you're worried about it though.

there isnt any knock, but it seems that the ignition is being retarded at 4.5k or thereabouts, thats why ive been told to source another sensor and booked back in this weekend
if its not the sensor what other possibilties could it be?
ecu?

If you know for sure its not knocking just plug in your spare sensor and cable tie it up out of harms way

At the end of the day solid lifters are always going to clatter being as they have clearance from the cam lobes, a standard cam is perfectly silent because it uses hydraulic lifters.

I wouldnt be at all surprised.

You wana do a run with it connected and then do a run with a spare sensor connected in, i bet it makes a difference!
