Default Removing core plugs?? how

I need to remove a core plug from my Zetec, its already been built up but due to a farily large technical error on my part, i need to remove a core plug from where the original flame trap was and use it as a breather.

i have made a small hole in it and screwed in a self tapping screw, then gave it some with a claw hammer to try and pull it out.

basically i felt it give a little, so gave it another good hard yank and it wasnt the core plug at all, the fookin head of the hammer broke off

so now i have a core plug with a hole in it, and a fucked hammer.... how am i gonna get it out lol?

i guess i could drill it out, but will need to stick something up inside the block to stop the swarf going everywhere lol

I used to tap the core plug on the edge with a screwdriver & hammer & the top of the core plug used to swing out, then use grips & pull it out.

you are supposed to bash the centre of the plug with a drift to deform the plug
then bash the outside to get it to swing out and then you lever the little shiney buggers out with a levery thing

what you aren't supposed to do is drill holes in the middle and use a claw hammer to pull them out, you seem to be watching too much discovery real time

I normally get them out by the "hit them on one edge and then pull like fuck with mole grips and level them with a big screwdriver" technique too.

in the pic i posted, i got the machine shop to block that hole, this hole is the flame trap breather on a zetec.

i have removed it now, its in the garage but im not gonna be in work tomoz to bother to take a pic and upload if for proof

basically to make it into a decent block breather i will make a plate out of 4mm thick alloy sheet, then get a 90 degree alloy tube welded on to that.

hey presto, a take off for a block breather - is it really that hard to grasp the concept??

ps dojj, its not in the water jacket, with it removed its just a fucking great hole in the block

does this mean that YOU didn't remove it then and your "WORKING" excuse is so that you can buy a core plug from ford, bash it about a bit and then post it thus PROOVING that you removed it?

right, get a pic of it when it's in the car and we'll all give you a round of for getting that far with the build

Sounds like a good plan Dan, too many people ignore the importance of good crankcase ventilation IMHO
