3 weeks ago i was cruising home from my mates place in my S1 RST when i accelerated gently away from a roundabout and i heard a clunk and then a whirring sound. Then i lost what i thought was the clutch as i could rev and rev but the car would not move.
I could move into every gear but would not engage etc.

Well after sourcing parts i have now changed the Clutch and flywheel and bolted everything back together and got the damn pedal cable back on.

I put the car in reverse and moved it back and went to drive it forward in 1st and a few metres down the road i hear a Clunk and now im back to square one.

Cant be the diff can it? or maybe the drive shaft?

any ideas help is welcomed guys......

 

Well was there anyting wrong with the clutch to begin with? Sometimes driveshafts can pop out of the gearbox and cause someting like this.

 

After replacing the clutch i could tell it needed doing sooner or later anyway.

Something deffinitely broke inside - maybe eth box as all i heard was a bang and then a "ding" ding" ding ding ding sound and lost all drive!

Ive checked the driveshafts by doing the following :
1 person looking at the inner driveshafts to see what moves when the other person puts the car in gear and tries to drive it .

Results : Nothing was moving but you could hear the gears whining.

Could this be the Diff? or a foo**ked gearbox.

Are there any gearbox exchange places i can go to if this is the case OR

What other boxes would fit my S1? maybe a s2?

 

Deffo sounds like a box problem

 

my si did this when the front arms wore out so much the drive shaft popped out the gear box, same noise as you describe,
