Default GSXR-600 or R6........

I should hopefully have my full bike licence by the summer and Im looking into getting either a GSXR-600 or an R6 for the summer. Looking at spending around £4k on one.

Anyone ever owned one or both and whats your opinions on them???? Any common problems i should look out for????

Cheers.

Only a couple of hp difference between the two, so i assume they perform similar without any noticable difference.

All sports bikes are much and such the same. I reckon you'd have to be a racer or very experienced to push the bike far enough to discuss which is really "better".

It comes down to personal preference on looks etc and whether its comfy for you to ride.

Gixxer allllllllllllllllllllllllll day long for me but i am biased

your only just getting your full license and u wanna jump str8 on a R6 or GSXR. bti risky....

but i wud really recommend tryin them both....when i rode the R1 the thing just tries to wheelie as soon as u give it some...both take them both out on a test ride and see wat is comfortable to you as every person is different

Lambchop, i must admit i am swaying towards the gsxr.

DanCossie, i know it'll be my first bike on the road but i know how to ride a bike as ive raced in motocross since i was 16. Different on the road i know but same principle.

I must say ive never understood why people say that too. You can ride a bike slowly, just like you can a car. Doesnt make it dangerous just because it fast, it depends how sensible you are with it i suppose.

Here lampchop question answered...its his first ROAD bike......you dont have passengers or cars on a track so an R6 maybe a big step to take mayeb start at a 400 vfr or something smaller

Best to look at what your get for your money from each bike. I suspect your will get a newer, lower milage R6 for your £4K but it really depands on what you want. Both are pretty focused sports bikes and will demand respect from you and since they are 'only' 600's the power delivery will be pretty sharp once you get near the power band at 9 or 10K rpm.

Be prepared to pay abit extra at this time of year as well, although some dealers may have bikes they have taken in PX against 07 plated bikes that they wish to shift rather than spend money tidying up before selling on.

Best advice is to shop around, private and dealer and get a test ride on each one.

Personally I wouldn't spend that much on a first bike as there is a good chance you'll drop it within the first year...i'd bu something between £2000-£2500 thats a bit more rough and ready....each to there own though!

Oh and I wouldn't buy either.....I'd get the equivalent ZX6-R

Thats my point!

No offence Dan! But why is an R6 hard to ride exactly? R1 maybe! Even then its up to the rider to twist the throttle and it goes both ways

If he can ride other bikes then i guess he's not a complete mong so a 600 is easy money for him to control!

Although i know where theres a cheap vfr4 for sale if he takes your advice

....i had an r6 and its brutal...so yes i'd class it as a difficult bike to ride...as its more like a 2 stroke,2000 model i had the best IMO....My R1 was tamer IMO but way quicker..scared the shit out of me.

ive driven a r6 and a rvf400,,,,, the first question im gonna ask HOW TALL ARE YOU ?

first bike i ever rode was a r6 then i rode a 125,,,, mate due to them skinny tyres id have to say a r6 is easier

as for the front end lifting,,, again its down to if you got skinny fingers i guess,,, i got warned about that and ive NEVER had the front end lift on a bike

oh and the rvf400 was a PROPER race tuned spec,,,, with magnesium wheels, its my neighbours track bike, its soo small i felt like i was fat bloke riding a donkey

he also has a blackbird :"runabout" bike,,,,, thats alot higher up but he swears its the best bike for long journeys,,,,, and thatn fucking thing MOVES,,, down kings road on the back of that thing with my visor open a little and the cold air brought tears to my eyes

The worst punishment i could inflict would be printing off your last 100 posts and making you endure the pain of reading them

Get whatever bike you want to mate , nevermind all this bollocks about which is best , faster ......... short list the bikes your interested in and test ride them .

Whats good for one person might not be the same for the next person

Every bike does 30 60 70 100 etc its down to YOU how you ride so if YOU fuck up then its YOUR fault not the bikes

Oh and my first bike at 21 after doing my DAS was a 1991 GSXR1100 Slingshot and I treated it with respect and I never had a problem once

pmsl @ Deano.

Little man is good thanks mate.

Back on topic, I brought my R1 before I passed my test (it sat in the conservatory for a month)...the step up form learning on my CBR125 to a 1000cc was awesome! Just like Deano said so long as you respect what ever bike you ride you'll be fine. You can kill yourself on a 125 just as easily!

Saying that, I am glad Chopper convinced me that buying the Busa for my first bike wasnt a good idea. However now that times are changing I am in the market for a ZZR1400 now. Still keeping the R1 for work and back in the summer.

Sunny youd have been just a fine on a Busa as a Honda Hornet

Majority of bike crashes are caused by riders riding well outside THEIR limits , not the bikes

Now my mates Turbo`d busa really does need a deft throttle hand

I myself have been caught riding beyond my limits and had the off to remind me what a cock I was , thankfully I wasnt injured other than pride and £1500 in new panels for my old Tiger
