Default Cossie Rear beams again!!

Just out of curiosity, where do the figures come from for rear beams?? I.E on Mike Rainbirds ultimate spec saff, he quotes it as having a 6 degree rear beam, where is this measurement taken from? Is it the amount of adjustment it offers, or is it the angle at which it is mounted to the car?

I need a rear beam sometime in the future, just wondering what options are out there at the moment, I take it Zoo beams are no longer availiable?

I've got the traditional Grp A spec setup, but will do a few mods to make it more durable on the road.

6 degrees is the angle of the swinging arm pick up points, as taken from the side of the car

Meaning the centre pick up point is slightly further back in the car as the outer ones. Hope this helps

Did you have that set up on yours Jon when you did that good time on the TOTB handling course? Was it just a lap where everything "came good"?

Top man Garath - I take it that 6 degrees is the optimum setting for grip vs tyre wear vs handling??

What is a STD beam set too?

I'm just looking into rear end solutions, apart from Ł10 rainbum shims that are a half fix, everything seems to be around the Ł1000 mark to sort out the crap geometry -

As far as I can read into it, basically you need to chop off the two original mounting eyes on the front of the trailing arm, and weld on a threaded portion and put in adjustable eye end rose joints?? and due to the angles they are mounted on the beam, that would give you camber adjustment with the inner eye, and toe adjustment with the outer eye???

Would the car benefit from solidly mounting the beam, as opposed to using the great big polly bushes in the beam to car mounting bracket?

The geometry was not crap for a standard ride height car on standard suspension for all round road use on a 20 year old design.

sigh .... But I am talking for a modified car with over 500BHP, I can hardly see 20 year old suspension coping with that? .....

Anyway, thats not the point in question, I am interested in what options there are to upgrade it, and if there is a DIY route avaliable

Cheers Radders, I will give him a bell when the time is closer

I don't disagree with you at all - the std one doesn't cope so well at all with all the EXTRA power you can get out of these engines - I'm looking at going the same route myself. Just agreeing with Tony that it didn't manage too badly on the std car.
