Default wire rung block

Hi all i need help. Took my head of my cos today to find that ive actualy got a wire rung block. done a bit of research and found a lot of different opinions on it. I know that these rings will have to be replaced but with what??? its not proper coopers ring gasket as ive got fire rings around the cylinders but it was only a standard head gasket on there. Obviously i will have to replace them some how otherwise its going to cost me a fortune getting everything skimmed and cr checked
any ideas welcome

Why does it need replacing?

Take it to you local machining shop and ask them to re-do it, it will not cost much!

Mine is wire rung and I still use a std gasket (not even grpA!)

re move them ther only taped in and replace with new wire its welding wire best to buy a littel roll of it £7 but take your wire out first as it could be a few differnt size simple realy done it many times or if yo know some one that has welding wire you only need around 1 meter of it to do a 4 cylinder

I don't suppose you have any idea who originally wire ringed it? You need to make sure you use the correct diameter wire....

its usually 1mm mig wire, cut it slightly longer than you need and file a 45 deg chamfer on one side. then file the other end with an opposing 45 deg chamfer untill it fits in the groove in the block. when you are happy that its a good fit use a few dabs of super glue to hold it in place while you fit the head.

My first EsCos was wire ringed, and behaved perfectly whilst I had it. When the new onwer drove (absolutely mentally hooned it!) off, I somehow knew there'd be issues . A few weeks later he phoned me up and asked me about the wire ringing, I found out from my tuner and gave him the correct diameter. A week or so later, he'd broken it again - and said he put a different diameter in to what I'd told him . He used the correct size second time around, and as far as I know, all was then sweet.

Good luck with it Dan

cheers all ive got the wire out of the grooves now but where it has been squashed its hard to distinguish was it was in the first place and what size it was so im going to try and measure the groove so that i know the depth of it and go from there

Interesting!

My head gasket has gone now and my block is wire rung according to the cars paperwork.

So is a grpA gasket the best to use with wire ringing?

I take it the wire compresses to fill the gap where the two ends meet ok?! Anyone?

Cheers Brad
