this is of course a mega long shot as i cant even remember if its the right type of car - but do 306s not have a car loom running down near a front door that is prone to damage as its crammed in and all sort of weird and wonderful things with electrics happen? I have dug this from the depths though but just another route for investigation.

theres a issue with the loom that runs across the bottom of the front panel that causes light problems

if its the older 306 by the n/s/f inner wing by the fuse box thier is a small silver unit that controls the headlights
this multi plug burns out try unplugging it and cleaning the contacts
