Default ESP system - how intrusive is it? considering buying one

First post - hello to everyone

I've registered as I'm considering a Focus 2.0 Zetec ESP as a 'new' car but am concerned about the ESP bit ..

I'm used to a 205GTi that I've run as a daily driver/track/sprint car for seven years now; it's time to get rid though and I'm attracted to the Focus primarily as it's universally regarded in the motoring press as an excellent drive.

The 2.0 Zetec is the one I've picked out as being within budget and, whilst the earlier ESP equipped model would be cheaper, I'm not keen on lumbering myself with an ESP system.

I'm wondering what enthusistic drivers make of the system - is it intrusive? And can it be disabled?

All replies welcome

Thanks
