Default NO BRAKES and then BRAKES?

Had a major problem the other day, i was bombing down the road and wanted to come to a stop, so i press the brakes and the pedal feels normal but suddenly goes strait to floor and brakes are none existent. I manage to stop and limp home but by the time i get home about 30sec away the brakes are fine and have been for the past day or so, ive checked and there are no leaks and the fluid is normal. When i bought the car the abs light was on but about a day or so before the incedent the light started to go off and after they faild it now stays off but some times the abs pumps the brakes for no reason. Any ideas its a bit strange to me
