Mondeo ST200
Would this be a good everyday car?? Would it cost more to run than a Escort Rs Turbo??
Anyone got one and any comments good or bad??
Only asking because i have just been offered one with 1 owner from new and its mint its the older shape not sure what year but will find out later

all good mate never had one problem with ours in 4+ years that we had it
does about 24 mpg

only thing that go wrong is
water pump is plastic(just swap for a metal one)
brake pipe above petrol tank rusts

If i get it, it would mean i would have to sell the Series 2 and tbh i dont really wont to unless the mondeo really is worth it

I had a S2 rs turbo this time last year and Ive just got me a ST200 and I love it,wouldnt go back to a S2. Gorgeous car to drive, effortless power and a modern car. My S2 was about 180bhp and was thirstier than the ST
Totally different cars, it's hard to compare. The Mondeo is a really easy car to live with. Really comfy, nice and swift, sounds great, and there's loads of space. It's a much more 'grown-up' car than an S2, so it kinda depends on whether you're ready to leave the Hot Hatch world behind really!
I really enjoy owning mine, as it's one of those cars that makes even small journeys feel like an 'occasion'.

Mixed driving, yes about that.
The plastic impellar was redesigned for the later ST24s so by default all the ST200s will have the re-designed item which is fine.
Great every day cars. It's just a Mk2 Mondeo with a bit more poke..
Blue, two tone leather interior means it's a limited ST200 but they all have leather as standard I think.
If it's got a few miles on it then chances are the brake discs will need replacing and the front lower control arm bushes are a known weak point. Rear arches are usually the first place to go for rust and check the state of the brake fluid, it's a service item and is a good indicator to a proper service history.
Another weak point on the ST200s is the diff, they can have a tendency to let go if you rag them about everywhere and clutches are expensive to replace as it's an engine out job.
other than that usual 2nd hand car checks. Parts are cheap and plentyful apart from the pucka ST200 parts like body kit etc but other than those, as I said just a Mk2 Mondeo.

if you get one I can recommend this forum. Loads of ST owners with years of experience of Mondeos behind them.
There a pretty helpful bunch too, which is nice..

i was looking at buying a st200 a couple of months ago and couldnt find anyone who had a bad thing to say about them, ended up buying a W reg ST24 with 72000 on the clock instead as it was mint and only Ł600
They are alot of car for the money, thats for sure, but they arent that quick, didnt feel like 200bhp to me, and my mates used to average 19mpg!!! Also his engine blew up, then the head gasket went. Another mate also blew the engine up on his, and another 2 with ST24's had the head gaskets go. All of these were at max 7 years old and less than 80k.....
just picked mine up a couple of months ago, absolutly love it!! amazing car, as said above a lot of car for the money
i picked mine up with 60,000 on the clock absolutly mint Ł2200.
All ive done is stick the uprated water pump on it and im gonna do the mod of moveing the imrc unit.
