In the past few days my escort cos has been runing quite hot. The temp guage normally sits well below the half way mark but just lately its going as high as the 'n' on the norm bit, and stays there for the duratio of the jorney. I have checked all the obvious stuff like coolant levels and oil etc. Anyone got any ideas?
The only things i can add to this are the clutch is slipping and the tappets need sorting, both on my to do list, but i dont think they will have any thing to do with it

No the fans dont come on. Where is the thermostat so i can check it?
Also, the other thing i forgot to mention is, the oil pressure guage is fine when you first start the car when its cold, but when it warms up it dips into the red section and the oil light comes on! until you rev it a litle bit. As i say the oil level is ok though?
Wondered if i had a faulty oil pump or something?
But i will check the thermostat out anyway.
Cheers lads

As you look into the engine bay the Thermostat housing is located at the front of the head underneath the top pulleys, it has 2 hoses going into it with 3 bolts holding it on.
I,m assuming you're the guy with black left hand drive cos in scunny?

mmmmh i would be worried about this oil pressure thinggy IMHO...
check the thermostat, the fan fuse, and also the fan contactor, which could be faulty.
Maybe your oil pressure going down when hot is because you have very liquid oil, which is not viscous enough when the engine's too hot (because of the cooling not working) ?
to check the thermostat, remove it from inside its pipe, put it in a pan full of water, put it on the fire, and see if it opens when the water becomes hot.
I personnaly had this very precise problem last year, and this turned to be a thermostat not opening anymore. I saw it when i did the test i explained above

The reason the fans arent coming o is because there seems to be a loose conection. When i wagle the wires to the fans they come on, but seem to stay on until the battery goes flat( which i found out the other night after i'd locked the car up in the garage
).
Even so i thought the fans were a last resort when cooling the engine. The engine seems to run hot all the time (without thrashing it) and its not exactly blisterig hot at the mo either.
I can understand the low oil pressure problem now though, as have only just changed it for some castrol rs oil, ithink its a 0-40w but i'd have to check.
Thanks for the comments so far people

Yes steve, how did you know that? do you go to the local rsoc meets?
