Default Removing side skirts to inspect for rot on sills

Hard or easy to do? I'm desperate to remove them and check the general state of the sills on my Saph. Is it wise to do so? Is there an easier way to check the sills?

Cheers

The only way to check the sills is by looking at the inner lips underneath.

If you are going to remove the sill covers then get a pro opinion that they have not been painted on the car i used to be panel beater/ painter and if they have been painted on you will make a mess of your shuts when removing them.

Removal and re fitting is not a bad job providing they have not been glued on or somit silly in the past.

If you can see no rust at the back of the sills or anywhere else then i would leave well alone!!!!!!

Cheers bud

It's a scary task and I'm a bit frightened what I'll find when I have a look.

The sill lip on the top when you open the doors and remove the plastic and rubber surrounds is perfect, no spots of rust.

Underneith looks okay but i'm not sure. Is the best idea to take the inner arch liners out and have a look at the edges of the them before hand?

Mine came off to have both sills done, some clips broke, easy to fabricate some new stainless ones, as ford ones crap anyway.
If there is ANY rust on edges of lips tere will be loads more up above that's for sure.
One thing that really helps is ford having the sunroof drain in the sills, as when sill holes block up it overflows onto inside of car and rots out floor where your feet are.

Oh sweet Jesus, sounds like I'm going to open a right can of worms here

I've not had a really good look under it yet due to the weather and the wobble problems lol

Do you drill out the top rivets?

I've got a bit rust in the sunroof well where the drainage holes are but it's not much at all. I suppose this would mean the drainage holes are slightly blocked or the car has been parked in such a way the water has just laid in the well.

as said when replacing the clips dont bother with ford ones as they`re stupid money and just break when u attempt to put them on
