Default How do you accurately measure the width of a wheel?

Got a set of new alloys today which are definatley 6.5" wide, and comparing them to my Saphire Cosworth alloys they are narrower.

However when i measured the width of the new alloys (from inner rim to outer rim) it was 7.5", and the Saph Cosworth wheels were over 8" wide.

So obviously i am not measing them correctly - how is this done?

Cheers

Always makes me laugh that they measure the wheels in IMPERIAL ".
Then we have to buy tyres in METRCIC MM!!
Wheel size and width imperial, offset and pcd metric!!
