Default MDF Boot build or Strip and Paint?

I fancy a change with the S2 this year. The rear seats in the RS have never been used since I put the rear cage in the car (for the obvious passenger saftey aspect) but I still kept them in with the seltbelts purely for looks.

Looks on the outside, and looks to hide what is underneath. Underneath is that horrible manky Diamond Cream colour that the car was originally, plus there are loads of scuff marks, especially in the boot. I am pretty sure I am going to get the inside of the car painted soon in my new shade of white, so that means stripping everything out to do it properly.

Here is the hard part, I don't know if I should get my chippie mate to build me a really nice MDF install and then I get it carpeted in black, or leave it showing off the fresh paint. My car is still a road car that I sometimes take on track, so I still put things in the boot. I think leaving the painted finish would look really nice but would be high maintainence and more prone to damage. If I did a build it would look something like this, but different

I just don't know what to do.

Any opinions and pictures would be greatly appreciated.

You mean the same colour as most other White RST's, including mine?? For that I'm not going to answer the phone to you.

So what's new?!

I was only ringing to see how much more interior I should I remove. I got as far as the gear shift, from the boot forward.

And you will see what I mean about manky cream when you see the car

That's why I only have 2 front speakers, which are hardly ever on. Not interested in a sound system in this car. Not what it was built for.

Keep them coming (except for Mr C )

MDF it m8, you know the jerry can's for bedford will scratch the paint, and it'll be something more for Damo to tell you off for not maintaining

Yeah I could do that, but what do I do where the carpet in the front meets the painted floor?

I'm not having a bare floor in the front section of the car.

PMSL - Good point about Damo

I think I am more inclined to go MDF. It will be less hassle and less noisy than just paint.

Maybe I could put prespex windows in the floor to show a bit of the paint underneath.

I would leave it as is mate, MDF starts getting heavy and your going to compromise your power to weight ratio.

id stick with the floor covered but wouldnt use mdf,far too dense and heavy
ive got ply in mine covered with leather material
had no floor in mine at one point and all you could hear was the pumps buzzing away and stones hittin off the inner arches/sills etc, theres still a bit of incar noise but nothing like it was,id only strip it bare if it was a track car mate

this is how mine looks, albeit not im my car
i use the small square bit thats cut out for some tools i carry for emergencies
and the back comes out to let you into the spare wheel well incase your carrying anything ie jump leads

Amp under the passenger seat, custom stealth box under one parcel shelf support. Custom 6*9 stand and some carpeted mdf floor.

Strip it

Put my sound deadening back in and it's a lot quieter now. Preffered it how it was though so it's all coming out again and being dumped in my loft

Small MDF speaker build and carpet.
Reduce the road noise and play some good tunes.

I'm not interested in adding anymore speakers to the car.

90% sure I will get a build done. It won't be right away after it is painted so I will have a painted floor for a bit. The board would cover up some road noise and protect the paintwork and I can store stuff in secret places.

Thanks for the opinions people.

I've voted on the MDF option mate, that will look sweeeeeeet + you'll have the added benefit of putting things in the boot like Dan said

I didn't think of just carpeting it, that is a good idea. Lightweight andstill durable, I like it. But I think I will get something made still to put my usual twist on things

Thanks guys
