This is my first tuning project, my second after rebuilding a 1969 landrover.
Managed to scam this MKII of my uncle for £000 as it had been sat at my house for some 6 years.
It's already been used in rally comps by my dad and my uncle so I know it was worth pre-2000
Here's it in action with my dad and uncle in a competition:


And this is how i bought it:



Its got a 120BHP 2.0 Pinto engine with a lightened and balanced Stage 1 bottom end with Mahle pistons specialy built by BURTON motorsport:


Took 2 hours to drag it 200ft with the tractor to find out the brake pad had split and was jamming the wheel.

Once inside the damage became clearer so i started work on the Rear end. Stripping the number plate, lights and bumper i could get a better look at the shell.



After Poking around with a screw driver for 1-2 hours it was apparent it had had a bit of a prang on the back corner folding the metal inwards and causing the bodyshop to use about 1 1/2 inch of body filler to straighted out the shape, and all that body filler had cracked and let water under it causing quite bad (compared to land rovers) rust (in other words serious rust lol):





Theres going to be a lot of grinding, sanding and bodyfiller practice for me to do over the next few weeks by the look of things.

3 hours work on the rear end produced some nice shiny steel underneath the rust and filler (with the aid of a wire brush lol).

Ps the good thing about the landrovers most panels are alloy so dont tend to have the same problems as the cars

Yeh your right landy panels dont corrode in air as their brimabright but they disintergrate when they are in contact with steel and it causes a corrosive reaction which causes the panel to simply drop off lol :P

I always fort it was the most stuppid thing to do Use a Steel frame and put alloy panels on top

My old 110 had started to corroad (sp) in places mainly the doors

 

Your right it's not an ideal situation but there was a steel sortage and it was rationed as they were developed during the war and the alloy was unrationed and cheap

 

mate it will be worth the hassekl in the end and at least its not rotted through all the panel

 

will be good when all done,glad its going to get used again.
