Quick Comp/Laptop Question
Does heat affect the speed..
My Laptop has been crazy slow recently and i've tried everything including wiping the harddrive and its still slow..
Was just thinking a hour ago that my Vaio laptop was not kicking out as heat from the fan on the side as per usual as if the fan isn't as powerful. so felt the underneath of the laptop and it was crazy hot.
So I put the laptop half on half off my sofa so the fan underneath was blowing out and its a lot cooler... but more importantly it not slow at the moment
Maybe a fan has fooked?
Thats if heat really effects it like I'm guessing?

Yeah i would say so as i had 2 hard drives stacked on top of each other and my computer was running very slow and everything kept freezing etc then by mistake i knocked on of the drives and nearly burned my hand
a soon as i fitted them properly the problems vanished as the air couldn't get around them properly and now it does everything is cool and the gang lol

The CPU should auto throttle (close part of itself off) to try and cool down and prevent damage when running too hot. All mobile CPU's will do this and laptops with Desktop CPU's (P4's) will also do this to try and save battery life (even if temps are ok).
Get a screw driver out and see if you can get to the fan, give it a good clean and clean off the mat of hair/dust/finger nails that will have stuck itself to the heat sink.
If you cant get to the fan and sink then get a can of compressed air, try maplin, and give it a good blast through the fan grates at the back.
The fan could be dead but i'd try giving it a good clean out first.
Never use a laptop on your lap or on a soft surface, like carpet or the sofa as it tends to block the airflow.

JAmes.

The fan for the CPU on my desktop builds up fluff round the vanes every so often. It really slows donw the computer, and sometimes it starts switching itself off to boot.
Needs a quick clean every now and then, and it's like having a new fancy desktop again!
