as far as I can make out, if the car is post 1974 you have one year to make it emmisions compliant or you have to export the vehicle, or use it on closed coure circuits.

Now I know some people have managed to get 3drs over there, as far as I know the rolling shell goes first then the engine follows. I could be wrong though!

You would have to contact Fastmaul for the details

I think Canada is more lax, with a 15 year limit on import cars and emmisions.

They have looked into getting Cos. in and it can't be done, but there may be exceptions if you are not a U.S national.

The problem with impotring a car and bringing into US DOT/EPA compliance is that they will not allow you to do the work yourself, it has to be done by a Registered Importer.

Try this site... http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/

If I remember from previous posts on F-Fanatics, you have to provide at least 2 cars for crash testing, as they have never been tested in the U.S.
It's the reason most people are put off. I believe you can have a "show car" but the use on the road is VERY limited.

I've been searching through here: http://forums.focaljet.com/team-pit-stop/

And you need 3 cars for crash testing plus the one you want to take in.

The only exception is 94-95 Escos as someone has already done the crash testing.
There is another big problem in that no-one can now find and Approved importer for any Cos models.

And they can build roadgoing 1500bhp cars with spaceframes and don't have anything like SVA.

When I bought some bits for my Focus V8 conversion, they had been POP RIVETING the new Transmission tunnel and boot floor in and it was legal there.

bollocks to that

other option is to get a cos built buy that canadian company i ,mentioned

If it's refused after 12months it has to leave the country or be crushed.

.Have some fun with a Yank instead.

Now you guys know why I buil a 3dr replica rather than importing one, there are a few 3dr/Merkur ringers here but that's a chance I would rather not take. The Merkurs are here because in addition to the 5MPH impact bumpers they also have side impact bars in the door and few other chassis reinforcements that help them meet our safety standards. Lights and glass are also different.

It cost approx. $250K to have a car tested by DOT/EPA before it can be considered here for road use, oddly and that enough the RS500 is legal because of it' limited production numbers.

Beefy... you're better off with one of our shitboxes

svony - how did Erik (Fastmaul) get his 3dr in then? IIRC, it came from Spain originally, but is it not going to be road legal?

Re-read my previous post...

My 4x4 running gear was already here in the states when I got it, all the other parts I imported from the UK (read expensive), of course now that my car is completed there is supplier here. Actually the supplier is in Canada but at least spares are not that far away now.
