My girlfriend is doin a course at Uni and gets the loan of a laptop for the full 3 years. It's registered to her and she's the only one who uses it. She just got an email from the uni saying Hi, this is psychology IT support etc. We notice u hav been having a few problems with viruses/malware over teh christmas period (which she has). Pls bring ur laptop into us at blah blah blah and we'll check to make sure ur laptop is 100% secure.

How'd they kno this?? and what other info will they hav collected?

Not saying she uses it for anything dodgy but she uses it as her normal pc, not just for work etc.

It will have a network antivirus system which will monitor on a server telling them when it was last updated. any virus's or adware.
Probably sends out the automatic email to.
