As far as i know, i'm afraid they are ALLOWED to do this. I had to do the same when i worked for HMPS, so cover could be arranged in advance. Sooooo fookin annoying but didn't have a choice in the matter. Worse for those who didn't get their holidays in though!

Everywhere i've ever worked you are allowed to book your holidays as and when you want but for some companys i suppose they want to sort out the cover as soon as?

they tried that at our place .. we all told them to grow up and get a life ...
we have to give a min of 1 months notice for time off but they are flexible now ...
you might be able to argue the fact that had she been made aware of this earlier last year she could have planned it easily .
but if it does not say anything in her contract you might have a leg to stand on.

Most places are not that strict BUT... they can do it if they want.

CPW dont let people take holiday in Nov and DEC and anything over 7 days must have 4 weeks notice minimum.

My current company- I tell em how it is.. LOL

We get our annual leave allocated to us - can't see the problem really, especially when there are people always willing to swap a date or two
