Default RS500 T4 size comparison...

Just been taking some photos of a couple of my turbos as a pretty cool size comparison...

The one turbo is pretty identical in size to a RS500 T4, exact on the compressor housing, though a bigger exhaust housing than a RS500 turbo, but all in all, within a few mm of RS500 T4 size.
So in all intents and purposes, a big ass 550bhp turbo.

The other one, well, is a mite bigger...

(pls ignore the slight oxidisation on the turbine housing of the bigger one, was left in a damp garage for a while, its still unused as yet)

Its about the size of the skyline engine bay The Skylines turbo is rated to 900bhp and is about half the size of the big one

TBH i dont know many trucks that have one this big!

And its a .86 exhaust housing too, so TBH it has a compressor too big, and an exhaust housing way too small for a big capacity truck engine, they usually have 1.30 a/r's or bigger.

Its more suited to a mega power thing of smaller capacity.

Haha, awesome, im ill and cant sleep so i just been doing some research, lots of research!

Its a Garrett GT60

Good for upto 2000bhp it seems (tho with the spool friendly .84 housing im sure its not that much, but their minimum rating is 1450bhp, so its obv still good for 1600bhp+)

2000bhp GT series turbo, unused, nice small exhaust housing, best 90 pounds i ever spent

Just out of interest what would happen if you was to fit that turbo to a 1.2 nissan micra or something of the sort?

Ranj-

Aye

They listed on a USA site for 3600 dollars

So i bet in the UK they at least 3000quid

And i got it for 90, winner

Worst thing is, he had 3or4 of em, and had no idea what they were or what they worth (they were someone elses who died i think) and i only took one

Think ill take more care of it now

Benni- What would happen? Nowt. I doubt itd even spool to 1psi by the rev limiter on such a small engine.
Intended for engines of 6-12 litres the bumph says, tho this has a smaller ex housing than the info i got, so im sure itd spool well even with 5litres or so.

If you was to put anti-lag on would it not work then? Or would it not do anything still?

AntiLag dont work like that mate.

Tons of nitrous or tons of revs (ie if the engine could rev to 10k or so) would get it spooling up even on a 1.2, but tis still pointless really, as youd never get it to a level where its doing better than a smaller more suitable turbo would on a diddy 1.2.

If we was talking 80s F1 style engines, fair enough, but even on them its a bit much

Tho if im reading the compressor map right, it can flow about 800bhp's worth of air at 0.5bar
