Default Steering rack questions

Need a new steering rack and got two questions:

(1). Will a cosworth 4x4 rack fit an XR4x4? Am I right in thinking its the same size and ratio but the cosworth one is less turns? My current rack causes grinding on full lock as i'm running 4x4 cossie hubs. I think a cossie rack will prevent as much turn on full lock.

(2). Is a recon rack as good as a new one. The place recomended to me say they will recon mine rather than fit a new one?

Cheers.

Recon is as new

the racks are different Ratios hence lock to lock being less

Cheers for your reply. The ratios are the same but I'm sure i read that the 4x4 cossie one is restricted to keep it to 2.4 turns lock to lock instead of the XR's 2.9 turns. On full lock I get a metal to metal grinding sound. Not actually sure what it is but I know its not good!

I'm running 215/40/16s and they don't seem to rub at all.

I think it probably is the driveshaft. The xr4x4 ones are slightly longer than the cosworth ones and mine is standard ride height which probably doesn't help.

Martin, thats good to know. Do you know if a cossie rack is a straight swop for an XR4x4 one?

Not sure mate mine was rubbing before i swaped rack fine after prob wouldnt have gone for the swap staight away but it was leaking as well so failed for that but may well have more turns on a xr rack but it may also have been fitted poorly as alot on my car had been bodged by previos owner

Cheers chaps. A cossie one it is then. The XR rack is worn and theres a small leak as well so gotta change it anyway.
