cos headgasket change

Default cos headgasket change

the head gasket has,nt gone, im just freshening the engine
do you need to skim the head etc,or could you just swop the gaskets
going from grp a to a multilayer

yes you could give it a clean first to remove any trace off the old gasket but you realy need to make sure that both mating face need to be flat ..ther will be alot of peopl that will tell you you need the block and head skimed but i have on many time done with out but make sure they are flat

I would nothing worse than doing ll that work to find its no good its only about £40

That makes sense, but if he has little meat left on the head, or doesn't want to remove the block from the car then it's a little impractical.

I personally have done what Basky wants to do, and did it just like abdr500 has recommended. Good advice

However if there is any suspicion the head has warped it WILL need to be skimmed - best to check at the very least.

theres no sign of the head warped,as there is nothing wrong with it at the mo,its just that im freshening it up for this year,and also upgrading the gasket,ive a straight rule and feelers to check the surfaces,

every head gasket change i've always put a face on the head.....when i put my steel multi on the head was faced and the block was decked...everything flat as possible

a metal gasket will find ALL imperfections in your head and block faces, and can ruin the head.
