Default Rolling Road Graph - Opinions please! :oD

Completely un-Ford related but i thought it was worth showing anyway.

My mate had his Import Nissan Silvia Q (200SX) mapped yesterday and then we took it for a power run at the local rolling road.

Anyone got any comments on the graph at all? He was a little dissapointed with the difference between the power figures, but it turns out this is a fairly common thing for this rolling road.

Heres the link to his thread on the SX Owners club aswell

Is there any reason why he's lost about 100bhp through the wheels? Thought it was only 4x4 that lost that sorta power?

100bhp odd of losses?

Is the gear box full of wood chippings and was the handbrake left on?

FPMSL

Wheel power 202.3
Drag power 106.9
Engine power 309.2

Its lost over a third of its power through the gearbox on a 2wd car

Tell him to try using gearbox oil instead of sand and it will be even quicker on the road

Look at the link to the SXOC, from what the people there are sayign it could well be Power Stations rollers are just shit!

But yea......the figures are disappointing although there is some doubt cast over how good their rollers are it would seem

i'm not an expert on rolling roads, but i know a lot of them calculate drag/losses differently. you'd have to get an explanation from someone more clued up on that particular road for an answer as to why the losses are high?

i used a rolling road a while back and saw 10% transmission losses, but the actual power figure was pretty much expected

and to add,at the RR day i was at,at powerstation a few months back, the results there were pretty much bang on what was expected too so personally i rate Powerstation.

what power was he hoping for?

Well he said to the operator he was expecting 300ish, but i think he probably sed that more than anything under-estimating, its always embarassing if your expecting a figure and are way under.

But he had it done last time and it was 277Bhp, and since then hes bought uprated injectors, and an Apexi ECU with FC commander, and fitted a 350Z air flow sensor so it can cope with higher fuelling. He just seemed a little dissapointed there wasn't much improvement.

But from my personal opinion i think its fairly good seeing as he hasn't done a great deal to it. Admittedly there is a big difference between the 2 figures but the people in the SXOC have some interesting views and they didnt pump the tyres up or anything when it went on the rollers.

Those of you that commented about transmission, does this say to you its earlys signs of the box about to give way? And its a manual box by the way.

The box hasnt lost him 106bhp out of 309bhp, the problem isnt with the box, it just looks like it has on that graph.

Maybe he had a rear brake problem or something that makes it look like there is more resistance than there is?

Did they try knocking it into neutral rather than just dipping the clutch to test the losses?
As if there was still 50bhp of loss doing that, it should be apparent there is a problem with the rear brakes or similar as with it in neutral there should be far less losses driving it than in gear.

With regards to his mods, a fuel commander installed and then not setup by an expert could easily LOSE you power not gain you it.

chip-3door, admittedly im not very up on rolling roads. Are the losses calculated when they let off the throttle and let the wheels free spin to a stop?

He hasn't DIY'd the FC Commander, he travelled up to Newbury yesterday morning and had a bloke map the car while he was driving around, so it had a wideband lambda probe up the arse and was using a laptop etc, so it should be a proper job.

I would say he probably has a binding brake or something. If there is unusually high losses most decent dyno operators will have an infra red thermometer that they can point at the brake discs to check their temps and see if there is a prob.

Seems well over the top for transmission losses

20% seems about the norm for 2wd.

Steve.
