Default Suspension mods to 2wd

Hello....

I am planning to convert my 86' Whale Tail into a weekend track day weapon, and I have a few queries regarding how to improve the handling of the car.....the engine is more or less done for now....

What kind of improvements are usually used, coil overs, stiffer anti roll bars etc.......

I already have improved brakes, and metal shielded brake lines, and Polyrace bushes all around.....However the current suspension setup is yellow bilsteins, and a "homemade(which the previous owner made....)" GpA front suspension which eliminates the front anti roll bar....I feel that this setup is not working good at all, and are planning to get rid of it as soon as possible....

Would be happy for all contributions of what works and what doesn't.....would be nice to get some adresses to companys, who can supply stiffer roll bars e.g......

Take a look over at www.zoomotorsport.co.uk

Gp A stuff should work fine if its set up correctly to how YOU want it to work.

Coilovers, strut brace, adjustable TCA's, compression struts etc will all help, but do need to be set up correctly.

I have TCA's if you need any

For a full on track car i would run coilovers with 400lb fronts and 200lbs rear, the front set up will be pretty good if you can get the role bar back on there[drop links] think zoo do a kit for this anyway.

At the back is the biggest weakness on cossies i have been told. Best way to sort this without mega expensive GrpA set up is a Zoo GrpA style rear beam and an escort cossie anti role bar. Thats the route i am going to take but having all the kit is pointless if you don't get it set up properly.

I regrette that website zoomotorsport have no pics of their product.

For your set up, Bilstein coil over grA are the best.

Tein are very expensive and are predominantly for Jap cars

I'd speak with Grove Garage mate, proper gear there

I have some rose jointed magnesium Bilstein rear coilovers, with 330lb springs going spare. They are as light as a feather to aid unsprung weight. £300ono.

Don't forget to upgrade your rear differential mount if you are building a high-performance car. They are often overlooked, despite being one of the most important bushings to upgrade (along with the beam mount bushings).

Mike Rainbird and Graham Goode carry upgraded versions, and they're also on ebay.
