Default Focus ST 5Cyl Turbo Engine Transplant

I have the offer of a CatB 2006 Focus ST. I am thinking of using the engine for a project probably RWD has anybody any knowledge of a suitable gearbox which could be used and has any body any idea if the ford ecu could be used of if I would need to use an aftermarket one Motec seems to be good?

Any body transplanted this engine into anything?

Any info greatly received

Thanks

Mr Ashcroft

Definately go with an aftermarket ECU, it will make life alot easier in the long term. You can then remove all the extra pipes for recirc etc.

I would use Motec when I do it again, proper ecu and good software

Elite are OK but Paul Jones sequential box has broke 4 times now

Which model are you looking at?

Still think you should buy the Volvo 270R motor. It's tweeked from the factory and you can get more out of them in standard form.

Probably cheaper too

Paul's box is ok now but I would go for the next model up the IL300 will also speak to quaife (got a number and a name to speak to)
Motec sounds good but bugger me it's expensive 1700+vat just for the brain

I know what your saying with the volvo motor but they are old and high millage where as the focus motor is brandnew and looks lovely striaght out of the box and remember I am nt looking for monster horspower this time 280bhp will suit me perfect

Maybe! I can then allways get you to build me a vlovo motor.

Joking asside I want a car this time I can use all the power and go sprinting and do track days and thrash it round the ring.

The good thing about a turbo engine over your huge V8 is that you can select whatever power you want using a good boost controller at the flick of a switch

150bhp for when your misses is driving and then 300bhp for track use

I run mine on 10psi for everyday driving and 25psi for strip use

Good idea never thought of that I take it the motec will do that?

Do you think Lou will be able to cope with the gearbox?

Gearbox is quite easy to use after about 10 mins practice

Motec can do boost control according to gear too it also has traction control

You can always use a boost controller like a a turbosmart e boost 2 and adjust it manually via buttons.

I have my buttons mounted to my steering wheel now to select up and down if I feel the need to give it a bit more beans suddenly

Definately go sequential, you will not look back

A mild tuned 5cyl will see 300bhp for starters and will have loads of torque.

Great for a car that will weigh circa 550kg

Hey, I was thinking of doing this as a nice conversion for my mk6 escort gti. Do you know if theres any cheaper alternatives to the gearbox? 6 speed sequential seems a bit OTT for what i'd want?

Cheers

Andy

Andy if your fitting in an escort use the standard ST 6sp box as it's still front wheel drive (or is it a rwd conversion).I'm going elite sequential as I want it rearwheel drive.

Just be aware the ecu situations is going to be very expensive as nobody has done this before and getting the vvt to work will be a knightmare

Hi AGAR have we meet?

Andy looked at your mini build thread looks very god any updates as nothing since sept would love to see the finished job

Yeah, im thinking rear wheel drive same as you. My brother has a t5 that he's just killed the engine in, so i could rip out the complete loom ecu, lock barrell, clocks, everything

No real progress on the mini, been away at uni the last 3 months, just got back so might get round to looking at it over the next few weeks. I'll update my build post on here when theres something to talk about

you'll need a manual volvo 960 then you get the M90 gear box (good for 400bhp) kee the 960 engine i think you need the sump off that
