I thought 'right to buy' was a government introduced scheme to local councils only.

Housing Associations are essentially just a business making a profit out of your rent so not sure if the scheme applies.

housing assosiations dont allow right to buy generally as clare says ( shes turning out to be a bit of a property guru these days )

they DO offer the half rent and hald buy scheme if you qualify which generally the houses are more realistically priced

right to buy these days has a max of 30% and the councils are also valuing houses at higher prices too,, aswell as its generally lease hold they sell too not free hold i belive which means you still have ground rent to pay and perhaps service charges each month ( for a fucking african caretaker who cleans the fucking staircase with dirty old fucking wather that stinks more when its fucking done,,,,, oh and the BEST thing she ever done IS

SHE TOOK FUCKING PHOTOS OF RUBBISH ( OLD WALL PAPER) IN A BLACK BAG OUTSIDE LY FRONT FUCKING DOOR WITH A FUCKING DIGITAL CAMERA AND INSTEAD OF ASKING ME TO MOVE IS TOO 4 PICTURES AND THEN GOT THE LOCAL COUNCIL TO SEND ME A FUCKING 50 QUID FINE FOR DUMPING FUCKING RUBBISH !!!!!!!

BUT THE FUCKING DOOR STEP IS PART OF MY FUCKING LEASE,,,, EVEN THOUGH ITS OUT SIDE

sorry im still sore about that

so to summerise,,, generally no

The way our local council used to work it was you started getting discount from the moment you had your name on the council housing list you diddnt actually have to be living in a council house to start qualifying for it, i think they have sold out to housing assosication now tho, im glad i got in when i did.

the longer you stay the bigger the discount was, my old mans place he got 65% i think

for YEARS he used to go on about how ahrd life is paying a morgage ect and scraping a living

then he went away with my mum for a month and left me to "grow up" and pay all the bills for that month

THE FUCKING MORGAGE WAS 53 QUID FOR THE MONTH,,,, THATS 13 QUID CHEEPER THAN I PAY TO RENT MY FUCKING GARAGE !!!

he bought the fucking place for just over 10k back in 1989

the cunt now has NO morgage and a big payout due to loosing his eye sight thorough its job in 1 eye aswell as over 1k a month pension

fucking tight are cunt still pleads poverty

the prices of houses are set to keep going up and up,,,,but in saying that and dont take this the wrong way but what is you rent

you might be better off setting upa isa and save a load of cash for a few years rather than get a morgage and have no money as the prices of houses are fucking high right now !!!!

reason i say this is housing assoiation rent is usually about 280 quid a month and a morgage your gonna be looking at 900 a month,,, ok the money will go up but id rather have money to enjoy my life and set up a future for my little girl than have a 900 quid a month bill and not be able to do anything UNTIL i downgrade and pay tax on it OR die and let my little one pay 40% in tax on the amount shes got for the property

but then im a poor person on a low income and aint got a pot to piss in so maybe i aint the best person to advise
