Default Shell Bearings

The place where Im getting the crank reground asked if the standard shells had the oil grooves in or are just plain. Im not at home at the moment to check so could anyone advise?

Also is it worth getting the hardened shells from the likes of burton power?

Cheers

Oops, I forgot to add that. Yup its a series 2.

Daft question but could someone clarify what they call the bearings i.e the ones that bolt on the block and the ones that hold the pistons.

The shells I am pretty sure have a groove in the centre. You need to double check the size of the shells aswell as Ford had a tendancy to fit undersize bearings from the factory to save on the amount of scrapped blocks.

Mains being the ones that bolts to the block (so to speak) and big ends being the ones that hold the pistons?

The machine shop measured the crank and it will end up .25 when ground.

Standard shells or the hard version?

It depends on what power your planning on running and what RPM. I'm using standard AE ones which seem to do the trick on a few engines I've built.

Just basic mods really, Upped boost, front mount, 3" exhaust, chip etc. Nothing too expensive.

A 3" exhaust is a right pain. I I'd get a 2.5" if you've got speed bumps.
