first thing i'd do is change the pressure switch to eliminate that! otherwise it could be an oil pump problem and the first thing to suffer will be the cam
and if your cam is that badly worn then you will not be getting full lift, therefore no power

Your best off fitting an oil pressure gauge it will show you a problem a long time before the switch does. I was going around a corner on the gas and found the oil pressure gauge was shooting up and down. Pulled over to find I had a an oil leak causing the oil pressure to be low and causing it to surge. The red light didn't come on at all even though it was working perfectly.

oil presure switch turns the light on when the pressure drops to 7.5 psi and by then it could be too late get a gauge in there

i would say check your compression and do a leak down test to see if the head gasket is going or not. if its comming on under braking are you sure you have enough oil in there or it could be part of the oil pump strainer is blocked.

deffo enough oil i check that every week if not moe often tbh
how could i check the oil pump strainer and where is it??
it seems to be under braking then goes off when i accelerate again, so stays on under deceleration and doesn't go off(even when coasting) until i stop or accelerate again??
seems to be quite random aswell, ie- it doesn't do it all the time

car seems to run fine apart from that though and slightly overheating.
